Relaxing on the Turkish Coast

We’ve slowed down a bit in the last week or two, enjoying the laid-back villa life, swimming in the pool every day and exploring the local beaches. We unpacked our bags, something we rarely have done in the last five months, and on a couple of days we did – gasp – nothing! Not surprisingly, I absolutely loved staying in the villa and it felt like a ‘luxury’ vacation, a welcome break from the hustle-bustle of our global sojourn.

We also celebrated Tim’s 43rd birthday in style with some ‘chocolate volcano’ cupcakes and a beer. A mellow celebration on the coast, made better by Charlie’s fabulous dill mashed potatoes (a dinner surprise that she knew her dad would love; they were great).

After Kas, we moved to on Fethiye, a large working town with a long, nearby beach and dozens of hotel-apartment compounds. There was nothing remarkable about stopped in Fethiye, although it was pleasant-enough, and I think this is one place we could have missed completely.

We are now on our way to the riverside town of Dalyan, where we will be meeting some dear friends who also live in California. Everyone is excited to be social again and the kids can’t wait to spend time with some other kids their age.

Happy Father’s Day, from The Villa People

As today is Father’s Day I’ve put away my tool belt and taken it easy, and this week’s accommodation is the perfect place to relax. Jenn booked our villa about a year ago, and has been dreaming sweet anticipatory dreams about it ever since.

We’ve stayed in a few different types of places on our trip: hotels, guest houses, apartments, friends’ guest bedrooms. This is the first villa, though, and it’s quite a treat. It’s large, well appointed, and has terrific views. The kids are loving it too, as they each have their own rooms (this is only the second time on the whole trip that this has been the case).

We are near the small town of Kas on the Mediterranean Sea, and we are here for a whole week, our longest planned stop of the entire trip. So without further delay, the Villa People present: our fabulous digs!
